Historical Museums Bring History to Life

  • Museums provide a fabulous and inexpensive way to enrich your homeschool curriculum with history. As you plan your history visitations, call ahead and obtain the hours of operation, visiting exhibits and inquire as to any possible public school field trips or other large group visitations that might conflict with your planned time frame. Historical museums are a great tool to bring curriculum to life for the young learner. A visit to a time-period specific museum will provide an in-depth understanding of lifestyle, household and industrial tools, famous people, fashion, military and other cultural topics that cannot be fully appreciated by reading a textbook. Observe your child as his or her thinking switches from the twenty-first century into that of a different historical time period. This is an opportunity for your pupil to be immersed in history and encourage imagination. This first-hand experience will enhance comprehension, appreciation and retention of history in an unparallelled way.
