I want to homeschool my children but I don't know how to begin.

The First Steps To Homeschooling Your Children

The first step to a successful experience as a homeschool parent is to research your personal goals and objectives for your children's education. The next step would be to contact your state homeschool association and inquire about local homeschool laws, guidelines and support groups in your area. Once you have complied with the legalities and arrangements necessary to teach your children in your home, it is then important to locate a support group of homeschool families. You will want to find a support group that not only shares your beliefs, values and morals but one that also behaves in a manner that is comfortable to you. When you meet with the different groups, inquire about the homeschool curriculums and homeschool programs that are utilized within their membership. Gathering references before you make an investment is a very smart idea.

If you are new to teaching, using a fully prepared curriculum offers an opportunity to benefit from professional educators experience in planning a thorough curriculum with minimal planning commitment on your part. This equates to less preparation and more involvement in your child's actually learning process. As you progress and gain experience with homeschool programs and homeschool curriculum, you may choose to purchase only pieces of different curriculum, but in the first year or two, consider the complete teaching package a smart idea.

While there are many different homeschool programs from which you can choose, consider using Sonlight Curriculum® which offers a literature rich Christian homeschooling curriculum that children love. Sonlight Curriculum offers a complete comprehensive preschool through 12 literature-rich curriculum, with curriculum advisor support, and a 'love to learn' guarantee.
